Malta Middle School 7th and 8th grade English students participated in the Patriot's Pen in October. The Patriot's Pen is an essay contest that encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. This year's theme was "My Pledge to Our Veterans".
Presenting this year's award winners were Donald Klinko, and Vince and Carolyn Schmoekel. This year local-level winners were the following:
